International Competition 4,278 entries from 114 countries. Korean Competition 481 entries
Busan International Short Film Festival (BISFF) 2015 received a record breaking number of entries among national short film festivals. The deadline for International Competition entries was January 9, and January 23 for Korean Competition entries.
Upon deadline, the International Competition had received 4,278 films from 114 countries, over double the number from the previous year, 2,076 from 94 countries. Notably, films from Asia had increased over 3 times (155 films from 16 countries in 2014, 429 films from 19 countries in 2015 – Korean films excluded).
With the newly established Korean Competition receiving a total of 481 entries, the total number of Korean films entered in both the International and Korean Competitions is 839. This figure is 1.2 times that of last year, suggesting that the number of Korean short films produced from 2014 to present has increased significantly since 2013.
The number of entries in the two competitions reflects the rising status of BISFF among short film festivals around the world. It is also a report on the continued increase of Korean short film production.
The finalists for the International Competition and Korean Competition will be announced on March 3 on the official homepage (www.bisff.org). Selected films will be screened during the film festival, April 24-28, 2015, where they will compete for 10 different award categories.
